ABC Fun, Find and Food

Amazing A Sound Hunt

Amazing A Sound Hunt

I am always looking for ways to make learning fun for my munchkins. Lately, one of the things I am doing with my daughter is reviewing the alphabet, making sure she can write each letter well and knows the phonetic sound that goes with each one. She’s not crazy about repetitive copy work, so I am having her do that part first so she can get to whatever fun game or activity I have planned with it.

Here is my lesson plan, if you can call it that, for the “Fun, Find and Food” theme for the letters A, B and C…

Letter A:

  1. Color the A page in her book, then fill in the practice page for writing the letter A.
  2. Attach the coloring page to the lid of a shoebox, as shown.
  3. Have her make the long A and short a sounds, and tell her to search the house for anything starting with those sounds.
  4. Watch as she runs excitedly around the house hollering out words for items to see if they start with the letter A.
  5. Give her a snack starting with an A, in this case, an apple.

Additional snack suggestions: Apricot, Apple Pie, Almonds.

In the above picture, she found: ape, apple, apron, antlers, animal, alligator, angel.

A is for Apple

A is for Apple

Letter B:

Repeat steps 1-5, just for the letter B.

Snack suggestions: Banana, Berries, Burrito, Blueberry Muffins.

Letter C:

Repeat steps 1-5, just for the letter C.

Snack suggestions: Carrots, Cookies, Crackers, Cucumbers, Craisins.

If you want to do all three letters in one day, you could have them collecting the ingredients for their snacks over the course of the three letters, then eat the snack at the end. For example, you could do a fruit salad with chopped apples and/or apricots, sliced bananas and shredded carrots or some craisins. You could also do a fruit trail mix with a mixture of any or all of the following: dried apples or apricots, almonds, dried bananas or berries, and craisins.

Here is an adorable Alphabetimals coloring book that would work well with this activity, if you need a new one: Alphabetimals Coloring Book (Dover Coloring Books)“>

The Liebster Award!!

The Liebster Award

Liebster Award

Liebster Award

I was given an unexpected compliment & honor this week, by being nominated for the Liebster Award! Liebster means “favorite” in German, and is given to new bloggers who are building their audience by people who believe they are doing an exceptional job.

Thank you so much to My Fabulous Frugal Life http://myfabulousfrugallife.com/ for nominating me! Be sure to visit and follow her frugally fashionable blog.

These are the Liebster Award rules; “When nominated, the blogger must list eleven facts about his/herself, answers questions given by the nominator, and come up with eleven questions for the bloggers he/she nominates.”

♥ Eleven Facts About Penny Pinching Peach♥

•Above all, I love my family.
•I was raised on a farm, and I miss it.
•I come from a long & proud line of penny pinching peaches
•I enjoy cooking and baking yummy vittles, then share them.
•I was homeschooled, graduating at age 15 in the top 1% of graduating seniors nationwide.
•I lost my mom in 2006, and I miss her every day, but she lives on in the hearts of all who loved her.
•My children are the reason I get up every morning.
•My pet peeves are parents who don’t parent and rude people.
•I love animals! We have two dogs, two cats, and are getting chicks before Easter.
•I’m new to the Wonderful World of Blog, but I’m finding folks friendly here. 🙂
•I’m pretty creative, and love making random things beautiful.

♥Questions From My Fabulous Frugal Life♥

•Why do you blog? I blog because it is the way I have expressed myself since I learned how to scribble words on paper, and I wanted to try a new avenue of sharing some things I love. You know, like pinching pennies and the funny kiddos.
•What is the last book you read? Organizing For Dummies. I got some great pointers out of it, too. I guess I’m a dummy when it comes to being organized with all the clutter we have around here. 🙂
•What is the last item you purchased? Groceries. Exciting, I know! 😉
•What is the last meal/food you prepared? My great-grandma’s recipe for Ritz cracker chicken, accompanied by some yummy mashed taters & green beans with onions, washed down with a cold glass of sweet tea. (Yep, I’m from the South! How’d y’all guess?)
•Where do you find home decorating items/inspiration? I find inspiration in my favorite things and colors, as well as nature and things others have done with their homes.
•What do you love? I am so in love with God, my family, friends, pets, writing, cooking & creativity.
•What’s something you know you do differently than most people? I don’t care where I am or who is looking. If I want to do the chicken dance with my daughter or look like a monkey to make my baby laugh, I’m not too embarassed to do that.
•What would you do if you won $1 million? Pay off all of our bills, buy our dream home on acreage, invest some for the future, and help out a few deserving folks a bit.
•What is your guilty pleasure? Yummy, delicious, delectable chocolate, especially of the dark & creamy varieties! Drool city! 🙂
•What is your favorite store and why? This is going to sound weird, but right now my favorite chain store is CVS. It is the easiest local store for stacking coupons and deals together for ridiculous savings! 🙂 Besides that, I have a lifelong friendship with thrift stores and consignment shops. You can find all sorts of nifty treasures on the cheap at those spots, and they keep my munchkins beautifully clothed for pennies on the dollar.
•What are you grateful for? I am grateful to be alive to be with my family. I had an extremely complicated pregnancy (due to a grapefruit sized dermoid cyst and delayed discovery by my original doctors) with my 10 month old son, and both of us nearly passed away. It was a hard fight to carry him as long as possible, then they nearly lost both of us when he was born. He went into respiratory arrest due to being three weeks premature and the meds I was on to keep from going into labor any sooner. I lost too much blood during an emergency c-section & surgery. Had my husband not fought so hard to force them to switch me to specialists at the best hospital in the state, I honestly believe that we might not be here today.I thank God every day that I am here to enjoy my life, family and babies, and even be annoyed & exhausted by them, because I was so close to not having all of this. We are very blessed.

SavingStar

One of my very favorite sites is equally great for both the seriously competitive and the seriously lazy couponers. For the seriously competitive, it adds onto the savings you know you’re already racking up every way you can cook up. For the seriously lazy, it makes it easy for you to save with a mere few clicks of a mouse and scanning your store cards. Interested? I thought so!

SavingStar is a wonderful site, and exceptionally easy to use! You just set up a user name and password, enter all your eligible store shopping cards (i.e. CVS, Ingles, Kroger) and click the coupons you would like to load onto your card. You can even have a list of the coupons you’ve loaded sent to you so you won’t forget which brands you can add savings with! If you’re a casual couponers, you can just forget about it until they send you a message notifying you they have a new batch of coupons to choose from or that you’ve got savings loaded to your balance. They will not send a bunch of obnoxious emails spamming or pestering you, which is something I really appreciate about this site.

The SavingStar coupons can be used on top of another coupon, so you can double the savings with manufacturer’s coupons and even triple when you have a store coupon on top of that. I’ve literally been paid to buy things I’d have bought with or without coupons! How nifty is that?

If you thought that was great, listen to this! Every time you add up to $5.00 in savings, you can redeem them for an Amazon gift card or just let it keep adding up until you get a larger balance. I’ve been able to buy several things from Amazon using my SavingStar account, and it is probably the easiest money I’ve ever made. 🙂

Are you still staring at the screen daydreaming about what you’ll do with all these great savings?? Scoot, scat, skedaddle, and JOIN!!! You won’t regret it!
