Saving At CVS

CVS Trip Feb. 16, 2013

Saving at CVS

So, I’ve made it clear that I am by no means an extreme couponer. This little mommy doesn’t have the time for it! πŸ™‚ I honestly didn’t plan out today’s trip at all, other than making a list of things I needed and taking my coupons with me. Normally I’m much more prepared, but I was busy the past few days and just trying to get out of here with the munchkins this morning.

The above photo is today’s haulΒ at CVS. I used a 25% off non-sale items, CVS coupons, in-store sales, and manufacturer’s coupons. Since I don’t get things I won’t use or be able to quickly give away/donate, there are alot of deals I completely ignore, and I buy the things we really need whether it hurts my final tally or not. Anyway, today was not my best score by a long shot, but it wasn’t too shabby for an unplanned trip to CVS to get several things we were needing. πŸ™‚

Grand Total: $131.23
Total Spent: $51.63
Total Saved: $79.60
Savings Percentage: 60%

I also have $14.00 in Extra Care Bucks to spend for my next trip, since I didn’t have time to plan it out well enough to use them up during today’s transaction.

Since I was mostly buying things we really do need, and other things we’ll very much enjoy, I’m happy with that. Hopefully next time my savings percentages will be more “normal” for me, though. πŸ™‚

Valentine’s Cooking With Coupons

The Day I Married My Valentine

The Day I Married My Valentine

I know most of us are on a budget, even at Valentine’s, so I thought I’d show you how to put together a special meal on a budget. All of the featured recipes have coupons that go with them to make this an inexpensively special meal, and most other ingredients are pretty inexpensive. All are simple enough for any fairly competent cook to try a hand at. The coupons you’ll need and link to print them will be at the bottom, after the recipes.

Sausage and Zucchini Quiche
Strawberry Feta Salad
Red Velvet Cupcakes

~*~Sausage and Zucchini Quiche~*~

1 1/2 cups cooked & crumbled Bob Evans Sausage
4 cups grated zucchini
2 cups Kraft shredded Swiss cheese
1 cup Bisquick
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

~Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
~Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well blended. Pour into large pie dish (lightly greased).
~Bake until browned and eggs are set, about 35 minutes.

~*~Strawberry Feta Salad~*~

1 pkg. (5 ounces) mixed baby greens
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
3 Tbsp. coarsely chopped Diamond Walnuts, toasted (or your favorite chopped nuts of choice)
1/4 cup Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing

~Toss together all ingredients except dressing in large bowl.

~Add dressing just before serving; mix lightly.

~*~Red Velvet Cupcakes~*~

1 pkg. (2-layer size) Duncan Hines red velvet cake mix
1 pkg. chocolate instant pudding
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1 cup thawed whipped topping
Red glitter sprinkles

~Prepare cake batter and bake as directed on package for 24 cupcakes, blending dry pudding mix into batter before spooning into prepared muffin cups. Cool.

~Beat cream cheese and butter in large bowl with mixer until blended. Gradually beat in sugar. Whisk in whipped topping. Spoon 1-1/2 cups into freezer-weight resealable plastic bag; seal bag. Cut 1 small corner off bottom of bag. Insert tip of bag into top of each cupcake to pipe about 1 Tbsp. frosting into center of cupcake.

~Frost cupcakes with remaining frosting. Sprinkle with red edible glitter. Keep refrigerated.

Okay, now that you’ve seen the yummy recipes, go print those coupons. I’ve pre-clipped the ones at coupons.com, so all you should have to do is press print. If you want more coupons, though, feel free to clip away! At SmartSource, just find the Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake mix and clip it for the cupcakes.

SavingStar

One of my very favorite sites is equally great for both the seriously competitive and the seriously lazy couponers. For the seriously competitive, it adds onto the savings you know you’re already racking up every way you can cook up. For the seriously lazy, it makes it easy for you to save with a mere few clicks of a mouse and scanning your store cards. Interested? I thought so!

SavingStar is a wonderful site, and exceptionally easy to use! You just set up a user name and password, enter all your eligible store shopping cards (i.e. CVS, Ingles, Kroger) and click the coupons you would like to load onto your card. You can even have a list of the coupons you’ve loaded sent to you so you won’t forget which brands you can add savings with! If you’re a casual couponers, you can just forget about it until they send you a message notifying you they have a new batch of coupons to choose from or that you’ve got savings loaded to your balance. They will not send a bunch of obnoxious emails spamming or pestering you, which is something I really appreciate about this site.

The SavingStar coupons can be used on top of another coupon, so you can double the savings with manufacturer’s coupons and even triple when you have a store coupon on top of that. I’ve literally been paid to buy things I’d have bought with or without coupons! How nifty is that?

If you thought that was great, listen to this! Every time you add up to $5.00 in savings, you can redeem them for an Amazon gift card or just let it keep adding up until you get a larger balance. I’ve been able to buy several things from Amazon using my SavingStar account, and it is probably the easiest money I’ve ever made. πŸ™‚

Are you still staring at the screen daydreaming about what you’ll do with all these great savings?? Scoot, scat, skedaddle, and JOIN!!! You won’t regret it!
