Key Lime Rice Krispie Eggs

This is an oldie, but a goodie! My second child is nearly the same age now as my first was when we did this one, so it will work even for tiny tots. Definitely worth a try, y’all!

With Easter around the corner, and so many creatively cutesy activities floating around the internet, I decided to cook up a couple of simpler goodies with my 3 year old Princess. 🙂

One of the things we chose to do was Easter Egg Rice Cereal Treats, with our own twist. We used key lime flavored marshmallows and added lots of pretty colored sprinkles in with the rice cereal. We didn’t fill them or decorate them extra, since that was just too much to try to get accomplished with my dawdly darling during my little punkin’s nap. We were having oodles of fun doing a basic molded version, plus some that we shaped into eggs by hand, and that’s the main point of doing cooking or crafts with a munchkin. They turned out with the refreshing look and taste of spring, and my daughter is quite pleased with our handiwork.

Want to try your own hand at it? Here’s the recipe:

Rice Cereal Easter Eggs

12  Plastic Easter Eggs
3 tablespoons butter
1 package (10 oz.) regular marshmallows
OR
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups rice cereal
Candy sprinkles
Frosting and/or candies, optional

Molding Cereal Eggs

Molding Cereal Eggs

Clean, then coat inside of plastic eggs with cooking spray. Set aside.
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
Add rice cereal and candy sprinkles. Stir until well coated.
Using greased hands, firmly press 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture into each Plastic Easter Eggs half. Press together. Remove from molds. Place on wax paper.
OR
Using 1/3-cup measuring cup coated with cooking spray divide warm cereal mixture into portions. Using buttered hands shape each portion into egg shape. Cool.
Decorate with frosting and/or candies, if desired.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 and 3 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.

For a cute way to store these once they cool, try this cute Easter Egg Shaped Chick Cookie Jar or this Easter Tupperware!

Princess and I got most of this done before my littlest booger woke up from his nap. Being the food loving fella that he is, he awakened just in time for the most important part of any recipe: taste testing!

This is a perfect recipe to do with a small & enthusiastic cook-in-training! I’ll be doing some rendition of it next year. I’m sure my munchkins would be looking forward to it, if they were old enough to plan a year in advance. 🙂

What flavor of marshmallows will you use in yours? For another fun Easter recipe, try my Peeps Easter Candy Cake!

Safely Flavored Drinks for Pregnant Mommies

Decaf green tea

Decaf green tea

If you’re like me, you need to drink a lot of water even when you aren’t pregnant!

The amount of water I need to prevent dehydration during pregnancy feels like enough to float a boat on! Sometimes when I try just going with plain water all the time, I find myself dehydrated from forgetting to drink. I don’t want to drink a lot of unhealthy and/or fattening sodas, teas, fruit drinks and such, but flavoring my drinks periodically definitely helps me to drink more. I thought I’d share a few of my tricks for tasty sipping drinks for pregnancy while trying to stay safe. 🙂

Strongly flavored juices like cranberry grape juice, regular grape juice or any cranberry mixed real fruit juices make some terrific flavored waters! You can put about just a splash up to about 1/4, then filling your cup with juice, add a few cubes of ice, fill it up with water and you have a very refreshing drink to sip.

“Penny Pinching Peach is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com”

Some herbal teas are safe during pregnancy, such as Earth Mama Angel Baby Organic Mama-To-Be Tea Sampler 16 bag, Celebration Herbals Organic Red Raspberry Leaf Tea Caffeine Free — 24 Herbal Tea Bags
and Twinings Pure Peppermint Herbal Tea, 1.41 Ounce Box, but it may be wise to consult your physician before drinking anything out of the ordinary. Personally, I’m on a peppermint tea kick, or sometimes Lipton Green Tea, Decaffeinated, 20 count, (Pack of 6). I like it warm with just a bit of honey, or I make it like iced tea with a little sugar. Either way, it’s very refreshing! The iced tea version is my favorite, because it’s a great alternative to that Southern sweet tea for this Georgia girl, and keeps me from giving in to the temptation to pour a tall glass of the traditional sweet tea I keep in the fridge for my hubby.

I love Barefut Essential Oils and the Kid Friendly line! They  run some amazing specials on top of the usual super affordable prices! https://barefut.com/product-category/kid-friendly/?afmc=Kg

Something I recently discovered is to let the frozen lemonade concentrate thaw and put it in a water bottle in the fridge!

I don’t like to keep a huge pitcher in the fridge, but love the lemony flavor it can add to my water when I start slowing down on my intake of H2O. I just shake the bottle, add it a little at a time to a glass of ice water and stir until it has the desired taste. You can mix it lightly so it tastes more like lemon water or more heavily if you want actual lemonade. I’m sure this would work with other juice concentrates, as well.

Blackberry Infused Water

Blackberry Infused Water

Infused waters are a perfect option for upping that water intake in a completely healthy way! I love them, and have tried lots of different fruits and even some veggies. Need some inspiration? Here is a link to a post I did about some of the flavors I’ve experimented with This and That Infused Water!

I have no medical training, obviously, but these are all things I’ve deemed safe for my own pregnancy after checking them out. What are some of your favorite pregnancy friendly drinks to sip?

National Write a Letter of Appreciation Week

National Write A Letter of Appreciation Week: 1-7

In honor of National Write A Letter of Appreciation Week, I’d like to challenge each of you to write a letter to someone you who has made an impact on your life and let them know! If you do it on a public forum, feel free to link to it in the comments below, and spread the inspiration to show our appreciation for others. 🙂 I’m sharing mine below, to someone I don’t normally express my gratitude to in so many words…

Dad and Grandbabies

Dad and Grandbabies

Dear Dad,

I don’t always say it, but I appreciate you.

I carry with me daily as a parent myself now the lesson you taught to us growing up that providing for your children is a top priority, working hard to make sure we never went without anything we needed. I admire the example of generosity to others that you have set for me, even though I think you are absolutely bonkers for being so giving to some people I can see so clearly don’t deserve your help. I appreciate you helping Mom teach me how to be a good steward of the things God gives me, and how to save for a rainy day. I am grateful that you gave me the opportunity to raise so many different kinds of animals growing up, because those are some of my best memories from childhood (dressing up goats, rolling around hedgehogs, hanging out on Jack’s back, and on). I appreciate the strong morals you and Mom taught me, and the foundation that has given me as I make my own decisions in life. I’m glad to know that if I really, truly need you for anything, you’ll be there for me.

There are many things I appreciate about you, but I don’t want it to ramble on or make it all go to your head. We all know that thing is already swollen up the size of an elephant on steroids already, right? 😉 (Yep, I’m also grateful for the gift of sarcasm you endowed on me, whether you are glad for that one or not…HA! 🙂 )

Love You Oodles & Truckloads,

Your Favorite Daughter *Shhh!!! Don’t tell them I’m your only one.

Alright, y’all, is there anyone who would you like to show your appreciation for? Give them a shout out below! 🙂

More Than a Mom

Before being a mommy, with one of my hiking buddies.

Before being a mommy, with one of my hiking buddies.

Sometimes I find it hard to remember that I was ever more than just a mom.

It’s difficult to believe that once my primary identity was merely “Keisha, a human”, rather than my first identifier being the fact that I am obviously the mother of the two beautiful munchkins who are pretty much always with me everywhere I go and the growing bump showing baby number three coming along. I don’t remember the last time I was remembered for being myself, but everywhere we go regularly people remember my friendly little people. I love being Mommy…but sometimes I desperately need to remember that I am more than that.

Once I had a job that I was proud of, with flexible hours conducive to being a full time mommy when the time came (and continued to work- taking them with me- for the first three years) and had worked very hard to make that a secure long term career plan. I had to step away from it in order to make the parenting decision I could be comfortable with under extenuating circumstances I can’t go into publicly. I went from being a wife, mother, and shipping manager/motivator in the family business to being a full fledged stay at home mom & wife. Even knowing it was the right decision, I went through a huge depression. I still struggle with the fact that I “just” take care of my family.

Staying at home with little ones day in and day out is both rewarding and soul numbing.

I forget I am anything other than a mother. I forget I’m capable of anything other than being a sibling referee, snot wiper, bottom cleaner, story teller, homeschool teacher, art director, entertainer, dish washer, laundress, chef, chauffeur and all the other little things that make up the day of a homeschooling parent of a tribe of small children. What else is there in the world? I don’t remember sometimes, since I’m alone in this little world of children so much of the time.

I always dreamed of being a mommy. I love living that dream- with or without income in my own right- but sometimes I want to remember there’s more to me than that.

Being silly, before I became a mom or lost my own mom.

Being silly, before I became a mom or lost my own mom.

I am artistic. I can do a lot more than just quick sketches for my children to color, but I forget that sometimes because I just don’t take the time out of being Mommy to do draw anything that interests me without involving my babies. I love to hike and wander through nature, but it’s so much hassle to try to haul my children along by myself that I don’t bother, and my husband is so infernally busy with the job of providing for the family and being everything to everyone that he rarely takes time for that type of outing. I’m good at selling anything I’m enthusiastic about, but haven’t been able to focus beyond the munchkins enough to find something I am passionate about to sell to help pay for our little family’s needs. I haven’t finished a book that wasn’t colorfully illustrated for the joy of children in a few years now, where I used to read extremely long novels on an almost daily basis. Until I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter, I went to the gym three times a week, because I loved it. Haven’t stepped foot in one in over 5 years now. I could go on, but I’ve forgotten too much. Really! 😉

Mommies, it’s okay to forget for awhile what made you unique and happy as an individual before you became a parent.

I know that I do. Sometimes I forget who I am underneath it all so much that it starts feeling soul numbing, though, and I have to do something- however so small- to remind myself of the things I loved and was good at before. When it starts to get to you, take time to try to remember. If you’re like me, you just plain can’t do anything major. That’s okay. What do I do?

Well, I blog, for one thing. It reminds me I’m able to continue to form sentences and thoughts without anyone’s input other than what flows from this crazy place inside of my brains. 🙂 It’s amazing how much that helps.

I draw, even if it’s just a quick card to brighten someone’s day. Sometimes I even throw some calligraphy on there.

Walking in the woods with Mommy

Walking in the woods with Mommy

I take my kids on a walk in the woods. I may not be able to go for miles on a trail somewhere, but I can certainly circle my own woods, watching the take in the beauty of nature that I find so peaceful as an individual and treasure even more as a mother.

I read a few online articles or a magazine to satisfy my inner bookworm until the day that I can voraciously consume literature once more.

I crazy dance around my living room or do stretches to feed my inner gym rat. I need to move it, move it….even if I’m tripping over crazy short people in the process. 🙂

In short….I remember.

I remember what I love and who I am that has absolutely nothing with the beauty of motherhood and the demands of tiny amazing beings who call me Mommy. I seriously stink at remembering, but sometimes I pause and remember all those little things that make me just plain ME. I am a much better mom when I take a few minutes to do that.

How do you remind yourself that you are more than a mom? Struggling? Head over here for a reminder that you are not alone.

The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game

If your kids are like mine, they love to play games together. However, it’s really hard to find a game that is fun for my very smart five year old, while being simple enough for my determinedly independent two year old to do with little to no assistance.

“Penny Pinching Peach is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com”

Educational Insights The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game is one of those rare amazing finds! They received this as a gift from a sweet friend of mine a few months ago, and they still play with it at least a couple of days a week. If you’ve been around little ones much, you know that this means this game is awesome if it’s surviving and still enjoyed regularly after that long!

If your child is old enough to know his colors well, or has an honest older sibling who can assist them nicely, you can let them sit at the table and play while you putter around the house getting things done. Since I initially helped them learn to play and they completely got the hang of it, which took about three or four games in all, they have rarely needed my assistance for anything except occasionally reminding Bambam to take turns when it’s not his turn. If you’re a mom, you know how valuable games and toys that encourage independent play can be for both you and your children. If you’re not, trust me when I say both parents and children will be happy with you for this gift for that very reason! 😉

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Playing

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Playing

Every piece of this game has proven to be sturdy enough to withstand the normal treatment of a little boy who earned every ounce of his nickname, Bambam, with all of that playing time. Both of my kiddos love their Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel game enough to willingly clean up and keep from losing the cutesy squirrel pinchers and numerous multi-colored acorns. The adorable tree shaped box is even much sturdier than the average game, so it’s still completely intact, as well. The only thing I would add is that if you have little ones who still put things in their mouths, please keep this game and it’s pieces safely away from that child, since the colorful acorns would be really tempting to taste and choke on. This should be common sense, but I felt I had to say it as a responsible parent of itty bitty folks. 🙂

I definitely recommend buying this game! I’m not being compensated for this review, just recommending and sharing a great product I think other families would love as much as we do, but I would be thrilled if you would purchase it through one of my Amazon affiliate links in this post, above and below. It costs you nothing, but it gives me a small commission to help take care of these cute little rascals. 🙂

Liebster Award!

Just me. My little girl took this photo. :)

Just me. My little girl took this photo. 🙂

A sweet friend and amazing blogger nominated me for the Liebster Award! 🙂 Although I’m over the limit for followers, I’m still happy to participate. 🙂 Please check out her wonderful blog here: https://kbailey373.wordpress.com/

Now, for my part, here are my answers to the questions I was asked for my nomination:

1.If you could be something today, something to make you proud, what would you be?

The best mommy for my children and to be able to successfully contribute financially to our family in a more significant way. I don’t do big dreams anymore.

2.Why you started blogging?

I had to quit working in what I thought would be my lifelong career. I was depressed and my mind was slowly melting in mommyland madness from a lack of an intellectual outlet. I have always loved to write and share frugal tips and recipes and crafty things, and had a couple of people suggest I start blogging. It snowballed from there.

3.What would make you happy?

Peace.

4.What is one thing you can’t live without at the moment?

My children. For real! They drive me batty sometimes, but they are my biggest reason for getting up every morning and moseying my way through every day.

5.The book or the movie?

It varies.

Poochy Play Pals

Poochy Play Pals

6.Do you have pets? if no, pick one would you would like to have

Yep! I have a dog named Ducky, two cats  named Xena and Sambo and two chickens named Millie and Dory. What do I want? Wellllll…I’d like to eventually get more chickens, another puppy (maybe next spring), fill an aquarium with fishies, raise rabbits and who knows what else?

7.Share your favorite blog and describe in 3 words why?

Wow, that is a toughie! Let’s say…ummm…okay, so I can’t pick! Pfffft!!

8.Describe yourself in 3 words.

Nurturing, strong, boring.

9.Mountain or sea/ocean?

Both, y’all, both!!! 😉

10.What you do to relax?

I hide and eat chocolate. LOL!!! A hot shower when my husband is home to actually watch the crazy little cute people we produced, so I don’t have to rush and worry about what destruction they are wrecking on my house and themselves while I try to get clean. Before kids, reading and writing and drawing and long QUIET walks were added in there. Quiet….as a toddler hangs from my neck hollering for his sister who is trying to work on kindergarten next to me to bow to him, “King Bambam”. Really, it’s happening. LOL

11.Favorite scent/perfume

To wear? Vanilla and fruity scents. In general? Baking cookies, babies, cinnamon, vanilla.

Put these rules in your post.
Inform the bloggers you have nominated.

Ok, the Rules:

Thank the person who has nominated you and link their blog in in your post.
Answer the questions above.
Nominate 5-11 blogger, who have less than 200 followers (or more if you don’t check, like me. LOL).
Make a new list with 11 questions.

My nominees, in no particular order:

https://ashleysdevotions.wordpress.com

http://www.myreallifemoments.com

Here are my questions for the nominees. If you don’t have time to answer, that’s okay. I love y’all, anyway! 😉

•What inspires your blogs?
•What is your favorite way to save?
•If you could spend your weekend any way you wanted, what would you do?
